What does your job involve?
I am responsible for the delivery of software solutions and products here at Diversity. I lead a bright team of engineers, developers, interface designers and domain experts who create world class travel technology solutions for our customers, as well as efficiency-building automation for our Operations team. This involves orchestrating multiple teams within the organisation, implementing and managing agile processes, contributing to design and architecture, quality control and managing various projects to achieve our vision of providing market-leading travel technology products.
What do you enjoy most about working within the Diversity Travel team?
I have been developing software solutions for close to 18 years now. I started as an engineer and have grown through the ranks to architect and then into management. Still being a techie at heart, I really enjoy the open and transparent environment and particularly the freedom I have at Diversity to build cutting edge solutions and solve unique complex problems for our customers. Our clients from across the academic, charity and public sectors have unique travel and service needs, which provide us motivation to continue building intuitive solutions.
What do you enjoy most about working in travel?
I’ve spent more than half of my career in the travel sector – principally building solutions for airlines, travel management companies, online travel agents, rail companies, airports etc. Over the years, the industry has built a vast ecosystem of integrated technologies which is unmatched in other industries. The travel industry has immense reach and touches every corner of humanity. I love the fact that travel provides amazingly complex problems to work on and that your solutions have the potential to make life easier, safer and simpler for travellers across the globe.
What is the best destination you have travelled to?
I am lucky to have worked in travel for a significant time and have had the opportunity to work with various clients all over the world, which has seen me travelling to a whole host of countries across the globe. But the destination I will never forget is Reykjavík, Iceland; remote yet busy and barren yet beautiful. My favourite place in the world is no doubt New Delhi; it’s a foodie delight and if you love Indian food then look no further! My dream destination which I would like to travel to is Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. There are few places in the world that can enthral quite like Kamchatka, easily Russia’s most scenically dramatic region. A vast volcanic peninsula that is almost entirely wilderness, Kamchatka is a place of extraordinary primal beauty, rushing rivers, hot springs and snow-capped peaks. Getting there takes time and effort, and exploring the region even more so, but few visitors leave anything other than awestruck.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take three things, what would they be?
Laptop, satellite modem, and a battery house which can last for years without recharge. With these tools, I can get help whenever I want and end my isolation as soon as I want! Is that a techy answer?!
