Diversity Travel have been awarded 1st place for the LCC Diversity Award!
We’re truly grateful to have received this award because of the great work we do through our Diversity Foundation. The Diversity Foundation, a Diversity Travel initiative, aims to provide support to mental health outreach services in Uganda. Currently, these services are very limited and due to a lack of understanding, many individuals are mistreated for their mental health issues. Approximately 90% of these people do not receive any treatment or support.
The Diversity Foundation was created to address these problems by:
- Promoting mental health awareness
- Reducing hospital admissions
- Training village health teams
- Improving the lives of those who are suffering
The area of focus is Bwindi, a rural town in south-western Uganda. The Bwindi Community Hospital covers 101 villages, 15,000 households and 70,000 people in the area. The Diversity Foundation will be providing £25,000 per year for the next three years. So far, this has been used to fund:
- The full salary of an additional staff member
- A new motorbike
- Two new laptops
- Radio shows that reach all villages
- Payment for specific drugs
- Contribution towards the Good Samaritan Fund
The Foundation was founded by Harish Sodha (Executive Chairman) and Sarah Burrows (Non-Executive Director). As we continue to expand our fundraising efforts, the Foundation has recently recruited a dedicated team of Diversity Foundation Coordinators. Without the collective effort from all those involved, none of the work the Foundation does would be possible! It is an honour to win this award, which paves the way for many more successful years of the Foundation.
