Our Finance Assistant Apprentice, Anna Parums, is fitting right into the Diversity Travel family after joining at the end of 2018. Find out how she’s getting on in her new role within the team, her plans for the future and where her dream travel destination would be…
What does your job involve?
As a Finance Assistant Apprentice, my role is to contribute and help out with the day-to-day running of the business, financially. This can involve processing and reconciling invoices and payments, dealing with internal and external clients and ensuring our accounts are maintained and up to date.
What have you enjoyed most during your time at Diversity Travel so far?
I have loved meeting new people during my time at Diversity. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and I’ve got on so well with everyone I have met. The company has such a pleasant atmosphere – I couldn’t ask for better colleagues!
How is it different from what you were doing before?
As I’m 16, I only left school a few months back after completing my GCSEs and had started studying for my A-levels earlier in 2018. I am quite academic and enjoyed school, but I knew what I wanted to become when I was older – an accountant. These days, there’s so much competition for jobs and the best thing that sells your CV to companies is experience. As a teenager with no prior experience in accounting, I was determined to pick up the experience I needed as quickly as I could. I made the decision to leave my A-levels behind me to pursue my dream job in accounting and came across the opportunity to become an apprentice at Diversity Travel! This has been the perfect chance to kick-start my career and I have learned so much already. I would recommend an apprenticeship to any young person who’s looking to pursue their dream career – it’s so different compared to school and gives you all the experience you could possibly want; I can gain the experience I need on the job whilst studying for my accounting qualifications at the same time. Its already taught me so many life skills that I would never have learned so soon otherwise. It’s been the best decision I have ever made!

What are you looking forward to in your future at Diversity Travel?
My apprenticeship counts towards a qualification and in addition to this, I am working towards my AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualifications. I can’t wait to complete these as I will have more experience and can use this to improve my level of work and contribute more to the company. After this, I hope to move on and start doing my ACCA (Association of Certified Chartered Accountants) qualifications to become a fully qualified chartered accountant.
What’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to and why?
The best place I have ever travelled to would probably be Florida. After seeing the gorgeous beaches along the gulf coast of Mexico, eating more junk food than you could imagine and spending two weeks in the heart of Disneyland, it really did feel like the happiest place on earth. I have now been three times and it’s never failed to be anything but a great holiday.
Where would your dream travel destination be?
In a couple of years, I’m planning on taking a trip to Asia; I’m currently saving money to go travelling to China, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand. I have always wanted to go to Asia, as I love their food and different cultures, so I would love the opportunity to experience this for myself. I’m looking forward to seeing the monuments, beaches in Thailand and cities in China and Korea. Travelling is one experience I can’t wait to try and now that I’m becoming more independent and have saved up some money, it won’t be long until I can go exploring!
