We were proud to officially launch our new U.S. office in Washington, D.C. this month!
Since being founded in 2007 by Harish Sodha, Diversity Travel has gone from strength to strength in providing travel management services to the charity, academic and not-for-profit sectors. Harish’s experiences growing up as a Ugandan-Indian have largely shaped what the company has become today:
“After my family fled Uganda as refugees and moved to the UK, I started my career in the travel industry. My passion was to help aid workers secure passage to Africa. Through this experience, I established the concept of humanitarian air fares with airlines. I’m proud to see this concept has grown to become a widely-used industry standard, and Diversity Travel continues to grow with new innovations to adapt to the needs of the nonprofit sector.”

Diversity Travel has since gone on to arrange more than 710,000 flights, 2.2 million international rail journeys, and 26.8 million hotel bookings for more than 6,000 organizations around the world, including Save the Children, Vital Strategies and ONE.org. Still, it continues to grow.
The progress of the company was recently marked by an exciting event in the Diversity Travel timeline: the official launch of our new office in the U.S.!
On June 5th, we held a networking event at the Meridian International Center in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the launch of our operations in the U.S. As a specialist Travel Management Company (TMC), we understand the demanding and often complex travel needs of nonprofits and NGO organizations. Despite being the third-largest industry in the country and spending around $2 billion on travel-related costs each year, the nonprofit sector still faces a deficiency of specialist TMCs in the U.S. market. Michael Tatham, Deputy British Ambassador to the USA, said, “The UK has a long-standing commitment to international development so it’s great to see companies like Diversity Travel supporting organizations and nonprofits in their charitable and academic work around the globe. The work they already do with U.S.-based organizations is a testament to the strength of the UK-US business relationship. They now join 300-plus British businesses currently operating in Virginia, demonstrating the enduring economic ties between UK and Virginia companies.”

We believe it is important to bring our knowledge and expertise to the table so that these organizations can benefit from increased efficiency, reduced costs and enhanced peace of mind when it comes to travel. “Nonprofits and NGOs often have complex travel needs,” says Matthew Truin, President of Diversity Travel Inc. “We work to coordinate travel that can have up to twelve stops, include boats, and require excess baggage in the form of supplies and aid material. We have even helped an environmental organization transport a baby gorilla! Charitable organizations need to focus on their mission, so our job is to handle all the logistical elements, using our specialized knowledge of the regional markets to provide tailored and cost-effective solutions.”
Our launch in the U.S. allows us to expand our global capabilities and effectively meet the demands of our customers, offering exceptional support to both our current clients and those who are yet to join us.
